Mynabirds

Undertow Presents The Mynabirds Living Room Tour Fall 2025! Tickets for this event can be found here: undertowmusic.com.

Mynabirds are back with a new album, It’s Okay To Go Back If You Keep Moving Forward, on November 7th.

American singer-songwriter Laura Burhenn is a shape-shifter who can't sit still. Since 2010 she's worked under the moniker The Mynabirds, releasing three critically acclaimed and stylistically different albums on Saddle Creek: What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood (2010) and GENERALS (2012), both produced by Richard Swift, and Lovers Know (2015). She has also toured as a member of the Postal Service (2013) and Bright Eyes (2011), helped found Omaha Girls Rock (a non-profit helping young girls find their voices), and in 2013 gave a TED talk based on her "New Revolutionists" portrait project, exploring what it means to be a revolutionary woman in this day and age. Before The Mynabirds, Laura was a member of DC indie band Georgie James with Q And Not U's John Davis, and also put out two self-produced solo albums on the label she founded herself, Laboratory Records.

Laura wrote in August 2025:

After releasing my last record BE HERE NOW in 2017, my voice fell silent. 8 long years. No songs came. I didn't even want to sing or touch the piano. Something about it felt too painful.

But last year something shifted.

Songs started coming back like gentle lightning, illuminating the corners of a long darkened room. Before I knew it, I was on a solo US tour, and back in the studio recording fragile acoustic songs that felt like journal entries my voice had been hiding, even from me.

This fall I'm releasing a new album. Maybe two. I'll be doing this on my own without the support of a label for the first time since the first Mynabirds record came out in 2010. It feels both terrifying and exhilarating. But the deep community connections we're forging and nourishing directly with one another is what gives me the most hope these days.

Who needs a middle man?

I'll be partnering with local nonprofits in each town to raise awareness (and funds!) for the great work being done all over America -- regardless of what hell those in power are putting us through. People and music together in rooms IRL is something AI could never replicate, and what, I really believe, will save us.

My new releases will not be on Spotify. I have removed my music from that platform in protest of their terrible artist pay, AI music platforming, and CEO Daniel Ek's investment of nearly $700m -- money he profited off the backs of paying artists poverty wages -- into an AI military start-up, of which he is now Chairman.

I believe in CREATIVE solutions to our world's urgent problems.
Not more war and destruction that kills us and the planet, too.

I encourage you to join me on all other streaming platforms. Please go to qob.uz/mynabirds to try one month of streaming on QOBUZ -- best-paying & most ethical streamer out there -- for free.

More info on the album title (titles??), vinyl & digital release dates, final tour routing & tickets coming soon.

Thank you for listening -- deeply, always.

xx
Laura.
